General driving tips and safety considerations

When embarking on a scenic drive in the Upper Delaware River region, a few driving tips and safety considerations can enhance your experience:

  • Plan Your Route: Familiarize yourself with your chosen route ahead of time. GPS and paper maps both have their merits, so consider using both.
  • Drive Slowly: The scenic routes are designed to be enjoyed leisurely. Slower speeds not only enhance your enjoyment but also improve safety on the often winding roads.
  • Watch for Wildlife: The region is home to diverse wildlife. Keep a lookout for animals crossing the road, especially during dawn and dusk.
  • Pack Essentials: Bring essential items like a full tank of gas, snacks, water, and a fully charged phone. Fall weather can be unpredictable, so ensure you’re prepared for varying conditions.
  • Vehicle Readiness: Ensure your vehicle is in good conditionโ€”check tires, brakes, and lights before setting off. Fall can bring wet or frosty roads, requiring cautious driving.

Remember to carry a camera or smartphone to capture the stunning landscapes youโ€™ll encounter. Each turn on these routes offers a new, picturesque view that you’ll want to remember.

With these tips in mind, you’re ready to start your journey through one of the most breathtaking regions in the country. Enjoy the ride, the views, and the seasonal beauty that the Upper Delaware River has to offer.

The Shohola Falls Route

Detailed Directions to and from Shohola Falls

If you’re planning an adventure to Shohola Falls, you’ll start from the town of Shohola, Pennsylvania. Begin by heading east on State Route 434, following signs for the Shohola Recreation Area. This portion of the drive is a visual treat, with dense forests lining your route. After about 4 miles, take a left turn onto Twin Lakes Road. Continue straight until you reach the Shohola Falls access point, a mere 3 miles ahead.

To return, simply retrace your steps back to Twin Lakes Road and follow State Route 434 West into Shohola town. This straightforward yet spectacular route ensures you’ll remain immersed in the regionโ€™s autumn beauty.

Best Viewpoints and Photo Opportunities

Shohola Falls is brimming with photo-worthy spots. Your first must-see viewpoint is at the waterfall’s edge, accessible via a short walking path from the parking area. The cascading falls framed by autumn leaves make for an unforgettable snapshot. For another perspective, consider the overlook near the bridge on Twin Lakes Road, where the falls can be seen flowing into the river. This site is particularly lovely during sunset.

Donโ€™t miss the opportunity to capture the serene beauty of Shohola Lake. Positioned just above the falls, this lake offers a tranquil setting, perfect for reflective photography or a serene nature shot.

Parking and Accessibility Information

The Shohola Falls area provides adequate parking right by the falls, with a well-maintained lot accommodating several vehicles. For larger groups, there is an additional overflow lot nearby. Signage in the area is clear, making it easy to find a spot even on busier weekends.

Accessibility is straightforward. The main trails to the viewpoints are well-marked and reasonably flat, ensuring they are accessible to most visitors. However, do wear sturdy footwear as parts of the trail can become slippery with autumn leaves. For those requiring more accessible pathways, the primary viewing area near the parking is easily navigable.

Embarking on the Shohola Falls Route not only allows for an immersive autumn experience but sets the stage for further explorations along the Upper Delaware River.

Love this place! Comfy room, AC works great, everything is very clean, cute spot. I love the corn hole setup out front. Really wished we could have stayed longer - staff is SUPER friendly. We came to visit our son who is working nearby at French Woods. Edit: back for a second year and the place is still awesome! I am consistently amazed by how friendly the entire staff is. Keep up the good work!

I showed up around 1:30am (so a late booking). The check-in was still all good this late. I would just suggest calling beforehand for late check-ins. Great place. Great price. And perfect for the night stay I needed.
